These barns were painted from approximately 1890 to 1992, as advertisements for the West Virginia Mail Pouch chewing tobacco company (Blotch Brothers Tobacco Company), based in Wheeling, West Virginia. Some are listed as National Historic Landmarks by the Secretary of the Interior.

Mail Pouch barns are fast disappearing, and Esther hopes to help keep their memory alive with this painting.
