Sally Port, by definition , is a gate or passage to or from the inner works of a citadel or fortification. With the opening of the Academy's Administration Building in 1913, the focus of campus life shifted from Main Barrack to this new addition located between East and North Barracks. St. Louis architect Albert Knell's design conveyed the appearance of a medieval fortress, while its dominating entrance, Sally Port, focused on the administrative heart of the school and led to the offices of the Superintendent, the Commandant of Cadets, Message Center and the Dean of Admissions. This scene evokes strong memories of campus life for students and alumni.
