This magnificent and huge (47,000 square foot) library is a relatively recent addition to the Culver campus. It was dedicated in 1993 and is named in honor of its principal donor, the Huffington family. It houses 55,000 volumes along with all the latest information technology. This spacious library enjoys a stunning panoramic view of Lake Maxinkuckee.
The monumental sculpture, Culver Centennial Eagle is in the foreground. The eagle has a wing span of 15 feet and was created by master artist, Mike Curtis. It was a gift of H. Ward Lay (CMA 1964) and was dedicated on the 100th anniversary of the Academies.
The story is told of this huge eagles voyage from the artists Idaho studio to its new Culver home - a long trip on a giant flat bed truck. At a rest stop enroute, several native Indians lifted a corner of the canvas to peer at the magnificent bald eagle statue, counted the birds feathers, and found the number of them absolutely accurate. Fine art limited edition bronze sculptures created by Mike Curtis may be viewed via the artists web site: www.mikecurtis.com and you may contact the sculptor directly by calling his studio: 208-263-8074.
This print is available in 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" notecards. Box of 8: $15.00.
